The Ingrown Toenail And The Painful Foot
Podiatry:
Here's the deal, if you've ever had an ingrown toenail, it is one health condition that you will never forget!
An ingrown toenail is a very painful condition of the toe and affects men, women, boys and girls. The agony of an ingrown toenail is something that can wake you during the night, disrupt you during an important business meeting, and seemingly drive you out of your mind.
An ingrown toenail is a rather common condition suffered by many. An ingrown toenail occurs when the side or corner of one of your toenails grows in to the soft and delicate flesh of that toe.
Just think about it, the hard, sharp toenail, digging into the soft and squishy toe skin, well that clearly is going to bring about some pain. One of the first things that you will notice is the pain and redness and maybe even some swelling along the exact track where the nail pushes into the skin.
An ingrown toenail occurs most commonly to the great big toe and if it is bad enough, the ingrown toenail can even lead to an infection of the nail. This of course will require even more extensive treatment in order to battle back the toe infection.
Now hear this! If you have an ingrown toenail and you get an infection, you cannot ignore it! The infection must be treated. Without proper treatment your toenail may develop an abscess and have to treated surgically for adequate management.
So if you have been unable to resolve the ingrown nail yourself, then be sure to call your doctor and schedule an appointment. Your physician should be able to help you get relief from the pain of the ingrown toenail as well as treat any underlying infection you may have developed.
It is important to remember that if you have diabetes or any other health condition that causes poor circulation to your feet or one that puts you at a higher risk for any type of infection, then you should not try to treat an ingrown toenail on your own. You must see your health care provider for assistance.
You must deal with an ingrown toenail. It really doesn't matter if you do it yourself or if your health care provider has to help you out, an ingrown toenail is not going to simply resolve on its own.
Ingrown toenail treatment is a must. Think about it...dealing with the ingrown nail will help you to relieve the pain and hopefully avoid any infection from the wayward nail.
